When I leave a public space, I keep the mask on to keep my idiot brain from contaminating my face. Stupid brain. I used to think it was strange, but I started to wear a mask in the car. I am borrowing my parent’s vehicle while my truck is being repaired. They are old and would not do well with Covid-19. I work in a school with cases in our building on the rise, and a friend I have been in close contact with tested positive. Out of an overabundance of caution, I mask up and wear gloves when driving. I also disinfect.

And you have no way to sanitize your hands at that moment or a way to clean/replace your mask.. so rather than touching your mask with your dirty (possibly virus-carrying) hands and risking the transfer onto the mask – just to then have to put it back on later – the smart decision would be to just keep it on and keep your hands as far away from your face as you can until you can wash up/sanitize.
